The games were released as Pokémon Red and Blue in North America in September 1998, starting a nationwide craze that swept the US during the late 90s and early 2000s. These two titles went on to become major hits, selling over 1 million units during their first year on shelves. Pokémon Red and its companion, Pokémon Green, were released in Japan in 1996. Akagi uses the game to reimmerse herself in the carefree world of Pokémon once more. One day, she receives a package from her mother, which turns out to be her childhood copy of Pokémon Red. However, Akagi soon realizes that professional life comes with its fair share of challenges. Nishino portrays Madoka Akagi, a young woman who moves out to Tokyo to work for her dream company. The drama stars Nanase Nishino, a self-professed lover of Pokémon who previously appeared in Hideaki Anno's live-action adaptation of Shin Kamen Rider.
